 ナレッジマネジメント(KM)という言葉がもてはやされたのは1998年ごろであるにもかかわらず、期待ほどの効果が得られていないのが現実だ。その原因は、「知識管理」そのものを目的としてしまったことにあるだろう。

 企業が求めているのは、既存のシステムやデータベース、データそのものなどに加工を行うことなく、手軽に共有するという手法だ。そして、共有されたデータの中から有益なデータを取り出すためには、「検索」が非常に重要な役割を担う。つまり、共有することが目的なのではなく、共有したデータを活用して何をなすかが重要なのだということに、ナレッジマネジメントを推し進めてきた企業はすでに気付いているのだ。
